While awake one night in Kansas City, summer in full swing and the kind of atmosphere that feels something like heat and energy, I was listening to a remix of Lana Del Rey's song "Summer Bummer" under the dim, red lights in my apartment. With the music in my ears and my eyes to the ceiling, flashes of images kept entering my mind, inspired by the music and vibe of the night. They were felt more than seen, since they only existed in my mind; I felt images of love, passion, youth, euphoria, and countless others stage themselves in scenes of people, youth like myself, caught in the romance of summer nights and euphoria. The scenes have lived in my mind since then, and I've continued to capture them over the years, with new ones emerging mentally every time I notice new neon....
